Join the Sandbox Board of Directors

Sandbox Mutual Insurance isn’t your average insurance company. We’re a federally licensed insurer with deep prairie roots, serving Western Canada through independent brokers in Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Alberta, and British Columbia. With $220M in premiums (and growing fast!) and a crew of 160 smart, curious, and fun humans, we’re all about doing insurance differently. Headquartered in Saskatoon, we’re focused on delivering delightfully simple insurance to our policyholders.

Why Sandbox?

Because we’re unboring. Insurance can feel complicated, heavy, and, well… dry. Sandbox is changing that by making the experience delightfully simple for everyone, from policyholders to brokers to employees to directors. Joining our Board means being part of a company that’s playful but professional, bold but grounded, and dead-serious about reimagining what insurance can be. If you want to pair sharp governance with a culture that’s as human as it gets, Sandbox is the place to do it.

The Role of the Board

The Sandbox Board is about real leadership. This group sets our vision, approves our strategy, and helps us stay focused on our promise to deliver delightfully simple insurance.

The Board is there to:

  • Appoint and evaluate the President & CEO
  • Oversee risk
  • Safeguard the company’s assets
  • Keep Sandbox moving forward for the long haul

To do this, the Board works through three standing committees:

  • Audit & Finance Committee
  • Compliance & Risk Committee
  • HR & Governance Committee

Directors and committees meet four times per year, plus one annual strategy session. Meeting dates are locked in a year ahead, and each director typically serves on two committees.

The Opportunity

We’re on the lookout for a new director who brings property & casualty insurance experience and executive leadership experience to the table. Ideal candidates will have the right mix of professional background, education, knowledge, and those hard-to-define human attributes that make governance a team sport.

  • Term: Three years, renewable up to three more terms
  • Compensation & Support: Annual honorarium (paid quarterly), meeting fees, education fully covered, and 100% travel reimbursement

How to Apply

If this sounds like your kind of sandbox, send us your resume and cover letter in confidence to [email protected] by November 20, 2026.

We appreciate every applicant, but only those moving forward will be contacted.
