Senior Accountant

We are on the search for a full-time position of Senior Accountant. Reporting to the Supervisor, Accounting, the successful candidate be responsible for the completion of accounting work and distribution of workload. Assists with special accounting projects as required. 

As Senior Accountant, YOU Will Be Responsible For 

• Completes reconciliations and analysis of accounts and reports. Requisitions direct bill commission cheques and reviews agency accounts, completes journal entries for direct bill and other general ledger accounts. 
• Distributes and monitors workload and provides guidance to department staff. Provides input into evaluations of staff performance. 
• Answers inquiries from brokers, Insureds, and other departments. 
• Performs reinsurance accounting functions. 
• Assists Vice President, Finance and Accounting Supervisor with special projects and reporting including PST, GST, and lease and management reporting. 
• Processes cash receipts. Maintains petty cash fund, checks invoices, and verifies accounts payable. 
• Works with auditors and provides information for year-end audits. 
• Assists with policy audits and performs quality control checks. 
• Trains, reviews, and approves the work of less senior accounting staff. 
• Performs related duties as required. 

 What We Need From YOU! 

• Bachelor of Commerce degree with a major in accounting. 
• A minimum of 5 years related accounting experience. 
• Thorough knowledge of accounting practices. 
• Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing. 
• Ability to assume responsibility and make accounting decisions with a minimum of supervision. 
• Ability to plan, organize and provide guidance to other employees. 
• Ability to lead, motivate and train other employees. 
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees. 
• Ability to deal effectively with the public in a courteous and positive manner.

This unionized position offers an annual salary range of $76,612 – 86,802, a comprehensive benefits package, a fun and inclusive work environment, professional development, opportunities and the potential for further advancement within the company.
